On our fourth day on vacation we decided to spend the fourth of july in New York City. We drove our to new jersey and took the train to the city. The whole trip took about 2 hours, it really wasn't bad. It was actually fun to experience the train riding fun. Oh the people you see in those. ;)
My first reaction when we got to the city was Wow look at all the huge tall building, and at all the yellow cabs everywhere. Second thing that crossed my mind was Oh WOW it's hot here. ha ha I was always hot and sweaty on our trips. Every. Single. Day! The climate change almost killed me. Just a little dramatic right? haha
Our first stop in NYC was The Empire State Building. We went up 86 floors in minutes to the very top where we saw the whole city from the top. It was amazing and breath taking. We could see the statue of liberty, central park, brooklyn bridge, the twin towers and so much more. We stayed up there for quite a while just soaking up the beautiful views from every angle. It was definitely worth our money.
Second stop was the Statue of Liberty. We took a Staten Island Ferry that took us right in front of it. The views from the ferry again, was amazing. We got to see the city from far, the statue of liberty so close, the brooklyn bridge again and so many other beautiful views. It was amazing.
After Lady Liberty we decided to grab some lunch. We decided to stop at the first place we saw because 1. we were starving and 2. we just wanted to sit down in some ac to cool off. So we stopped at a TGI Fridays. We sat looked at the menu and the cheapest thing was a sandwich for 20 something dollars. So we got right up and decided to go look for something else. Ha ha We then ended up in a cute little cafe where we got some delicious burgers for half the price of the other crazy restaurant. And score, we were right on the corner of the 9/11 Memorial. Another stop we wanted to make.
So after lunch we headed to the 9/11 Memorial, it was another free activity. There are two pools in memory of the twin towers. A North and a South pool. The 2,983 names of the men, women, and children killed in the attacks of September 11, 2001 and February 26, 1993, are inscribed into bronze parapets surrounding the twin Memorial pools, located in the footprints of the Twin Towers. As we stood there around the pools and thought about what it represented it gave me goose bumps and almost brought tears to my eyes. It was a beautiful memorial and I was so grateful we were able to stop there.
After the 9/11 Memorial we headed to Times Square. It was jam packed with people because, hello it was the fourth of July! It was beautiful. All the lights, billboards, stores and everything was just crazy.
And our last stop was the harbor for fireworks. It was again jam packed with people. Streets closed down because there was people every where. The fireworks were great. There were 3 different ones being shot up in the air in different areas. I'm sure it was just beautiful from the top of the sky high building but we just saw them from the ground. It was still beautiful and I was grateful we had the opportunity of being there right then together.
Our little NYC experience was short lived but great none the less. We were so grateful that we had the opportunity of being there and getting to know a little bit of the city. We will definitely have to go back and definitely not in the summer. ha ha I experienced enough of the crazy East Coast heat wave this one time. I say next time we go in the fall. Doesn't that sound perfect? Just a little chilly for a jacket. Ah sounds so pleasant.
Thanks for stopping by!
XoXo
